I’ve been thinking about buying a camera!
A good camera to take photos of my jewellery. I’m not an expert so I’ve been doing some internet searching and looking at a few in shops.
But here’s the thing … I really don’t want to buy from the internet, especially not Amazon. I checked one camera on their site and guess what? I now get sponsored posts for their cameras on Facebook and Instagram! Everywhere!! It’s like I’m being spied on, mainly because I am. Whatever the techy speak is for it, we are being tracked through our searches. Firstly I find this creepy and disturbing. Secondly, how the hell do indies like me, like local camera shops, people on the high street compete????
It’s very tempting (and easy) to buy with the big online stores that deliver in minutes! But I want to support local business, I want to support indies and the high street. I want to support the #justacardcampaign.
The campaign came about when Artist & Designer Sarah Hamilton saw the quote “If everyone who’d complimented our beautiful gallery had bought ‘just a card’ we’d still be open” by store keepers who’d recently closed their gallery.
A small purchase can make a big difference to a small business.
If you want to keep your high streets vibrant, you need to shop there! It will help keep streets like Coney Street in York, buzzing. It will help keep a variety of products, creativity and choice!
So please, this Christmas please support indies, support your high street, shop local. It doesn’t have to be a huge spend – it could be @justacardcampaign!
Ps – thank you to all you lovely people who do buy local and have supported my business. I really appreciate it. If you have any recommendations for an independent camera shop in York let me know!
